Problem

When there is a performance degrade in NAV server, try to capture the real time NAV server log for further diagnose. 

Solution

Please follow the steps below:

  1. Login into NAV Server machine via remote desktop
  2. In Start Menu, search for "Performance Monitor" and open it
  3. In Performance Monitor, drill down "Data Collector Sets" > "User Defined"
  4. If you are the first time here, you need to define a collector set, right click "User Defined", select "New" "Data Collector Set", otherwise jump to Step 10
  5. Give a name to your set, and select "Create manually (Advanced)", press Next
  6. Select data to be include as "Create Data logs" > "Event trace data", press Next
  7. In providers box, select "Add", and pick "Microsoft-DynamicsNAV-Server", press Next

  8. Select a directory you want the log to be created, press Next
  9. Select the user to run the monitor, or leave it as default, select "Save and close", press Finish
  10. Select the Data Collector set, press "Start", the system will start collecting performance data



The generated log can be huge and hard to sort out the problem, it is not recommend collecting logs more than 3 minutes
